Seventeen years of doing this, and I can tell you the number one reason people fail at losing weight has nothing to do with willpower. It's that nobody ever showed them a plan they could actually live with. They go all-in on some brutal diet in January, it works for three weeks, life gets in the way, and it all unravels. Sound familiar?
Here's what an online weight loss coach should actually be doing differently.
It starts with your life, not a generic calorie number
Any calculator online can spit out "eat 1,600 calories a day." That's not coaching that's arithmetic. The number means nothing if it doesn't account for the fact that you've a two-hour commute, three kids, a job that runs into the evening, or a social life you're not willing to give up (and shouldn't have to).
When someone comes to me wanting to lose weight, the first thing we go through isn't macros. It's your actual week. What time do you eat, what do you cook, what do you order in when you're wrecked, what does a normal weekend look like. The plan gets built around that not the other way round.
Why "just eat less and move more" doesn't work long-term
It's technically true, and completely useless as advice. Almost every client who lands on my page has already tried eating less. Some have tried it a dozen times. What they haven't had is:
- A structure that adapts. Your calories and training need to change as your weight changes and your life changes not stay fixed for months while you plateau and get frustrated.
- Someone checking in. It's far too easy to slide back into old habits when nobody's watching. A weekly check-in through the app means small slips get caught before they turn into three lost months.
- Training that actually protects weight loss. Losing weight without resistance training just makes you a smaller, weaker version of yourself. Proper strength work is what keeps the weight off once it's gone, and what stops the classic yo-yo cycle.
What an online weight loss programme with me actually includes
No vague "eat clean" nonsense. You get:
- 1A full assessment of your current habits, training history, and goals done honestly, before anything is built.
- 2A calorie and macro plan that fits real food, not a meal-prep fantasy you'll abandon by week two.
- 3A structured training plan, because weight loss without strength training is just muscle loss in disguise.
- 4Weekly check-ins so we adjust before things go off track, not after.
- 5Direct messaging support, so if you're stuck at a wedding buffet or a work lunch, you can ask me before you spiral, not after.
How fast should you expect results?
Anyone promising you'll drop two stones in a month is either lying or setting you up to put it straight back on. A realistic, sustainable rate for most people is around 0.5–1kg a week. In the first few weeks you'll likely notice better energy and sleep before the scale moves much that's normal, and it's actually a good sign your body's adjusting well rather than being shocked into crisis mode.
By week six to eight, most clients are seeing visible changes clothes fitting differently, photos looking noticeably different even if the scale hasn't moved as dramatically as they hoped.
Who this is for
This is for people who are done with the extreme, unsustainable stuff and actually want it to stick this time. If you've yo-yo dieted before, if you've lost the same stone three times, this approach built around your real life, with proper support is the one that tends to actually hold.
